Matt Spence Duncan Harwood Custom Homes emerged from two families with a passion for quality design and enhancing the landscape of small towns and communities. Each family brings unique experience and vision to the business, resulting in a dynamic team that brings our clients’ dream home into reality.

Solid Foundation

Matt Spence spent much of his early years in various construction jobs, woodshops and renovation projects. Through these experiences, Matt developed a passion for fine carpentry and residential design. This led to him pursuing an Architectural Technology diploma at Fanshawe College while also obtaining a BCIN license which allowed him to start designing homes in Ontario while he continued his studies.

After graduating, Matt honed his skills and became a successful Project Manager with one of the top construction management firms in the country. This unique opportunity allowed him to work with the industry’s best on multi-million dollar projects, learning to balance quality, budget and schedule.

From The Ground Up

In 2017, Matt decided to take his toolbox full of skills and experience and start a new adventure. Duncan Harwood was born as Matt and his team started with renovation and additions, working their way towards building custom homes. After acquiring his New Home Build license through the Tarion Warranty Corporation, Matt partnered with trusted family friends Kevin & Laura Murphy.

Expansion

Kevin and Laura have over twenty years of experience in owning several businesses and in real estate holdings. They have a keen interest in delivering services to small towns and communities through commercial land development.

Laura graduated from Western University with honours, specializing in Health Sciences and Business. Kevin graduated with a Business diploma from Fanshawe as well as a diploma from Western University for Project Management.

Joining this dynamic business duo with the creative craftsmanship of Duncan Harwood was the perfect match. Together they established Duncan Harwood Custom Homes, designing charming communities in desirable locations.
